What in the World is Geocaching?

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it .........

Recently while looking at other blogs I found an RV blogger talking about Geocaching.  I have heard the term but didn't know what it meant.  So, being the computer whiz that I am (lol) I googled Geocaching.  I found geocaching.com It has great information and a forum for questions.

Geocaching is a high tech Easter egg hunt Someone hides a container of inexpensive knickknacks -- a cache.  Then they post its latitude & longitude on the Internet, and other people go hunting for it with a handheld GPS.  If they find it they trade knickknacks and sign a log to record their visit. Cache containers can range from a 35mm film can to an ammunition container.  They must be sealed to protect the contents from the elements.

Sometimes the geocaches can be found very easily, sometimes they are farther into a forest or the woods and harder to find.

This seems like a very interesting hobby/sport/game to me.  I think it would be a very fun activity for an RVer to do.  I'm going to check into it further.  I will let you all know what I find out! ;)

  2. When we were hosts at Mosquito Lake State Park Campgrounds in Cortland, Ohio there were always people searching around the campsites. There were several hidden in the campground and others around the lake. I think I could enjoy doing this too except the price of gas will be a bit of a deterrent for n ow

  3. There is a free app for your smart phone that you can download. You can get it at geocaching.com. I haven't done any searching yet on the road, but did find one close to home before I left my condo.
